Getting up close and personal with all things Hygge.
So, you’ve seen the word ‘Hygge’ all over Pinterest, Instagram and basically every design magazine you can get your mitts on. But what exactly does it mean and how can you incorporate it into your bathroom?
What on earth is Hygge?
So you’ve seen the word ‘Hygge’ all over Pinterest, Instagram and basically every design magazine you can get your mitts on. But what exactly does it mean and how can incorporate it into your bathroom?
“a Danish word for a quality of cosiness (= feeling warm, comfortable, and safe) that comes from doing simple things such as lighting candles, baking, or spending time at home with your family.”
That sounds like a concept that we can get on board with! Now, bear with us – we know bathrooms and cosiness aren’t really associated with each other so we want to change that.
How can I make my bathroom cosier?
- Candles
Probably the easiest way to channel Hygge into your bathroom is candles! We all know they are part of the recipe to creating the perfect bath so if they’re Hygge – we’re Hygge! Dot a few around your bathroom before you step into the tub and embrace the gentle glow of the flame. - Grab your favourite book
When you picture being cosy, it definitely involves being curled up with your favourite book and that doesn’t have to stop in the bathroom! Our Seren Freestanding Bath has an amazing Bath Board which is absolutely perfect for resting your book and a cheeky glass of wine. Seren is literally designed to provide you with the cosiest bath – everything you need is right at your fingertips. Forgive us for getting overexcited, but it really is an incredible produt! - Sync up your colour scheme
If we’re getting to the nitty gritty of Hygge design, think clean and contemporary but warmed up with soft and cosy colour palettes. This is further complemented by natural light and blond wood furniture – just like our Berg collection! Consisting of the Berg Mirror, you can seamlessly add that Scandi vibe while keeping in tune with all things Hygge. - Get warm and cosy!
As Hygge is all about cosiness, it only makes sense to turn up the heat (especially when you’re climbing in and out the shower/bath) And who doesn’t love wrapping up in a fluffy, warm towel? Get cosy with a Mill Heat Panel Heater! Not only will they warm up your bathroom in an instant, the clean aesthetic with rounded edges is very Scandi and won’t mess up your calm ambiance. Why stop there? The Smart Heating element of these amazing heaters are versatile enough to pop in any room in your home. If you would like to find out more, head on over to our Smart Heating blog. Enjoy! - Declutter your bathroom, declutter your mind!
Having a clean and tidy bathroom is essential when creating a place to relax. Tripping over towels and knocking over toiletries is the last thing you want to be doing in your little piece of heaven. We’d recommended the Berg Countertop Vanity Unit (which you can pair with the Berg Mirror… see where we are going with this?) No clutter, no worries! - Talkin’ about texture
As we mentioned earlier, the bathroom is the last room in the house that you’d expect to be cosy. To change it up a bit, simply add some texture to your aesthetic with bath mats, fluffy towels and snuggly robes. We feel cosier just thinking about it! - All of the lights
In order to achieve a truly Hygge bathroom – harsh lights are a no-no! If your lights are too bright, they can create a clinical and harsh setting. Keep it warm and on the low – it will allow you to relax. - Do it yourself!
Part of embracing the Hygge culture is taking the time out to hand craft your own items. So, when it comes to the bathroom, you can get stuck in by making your own bath bombs, candles, flannels and potpourri! The list is endless. Even better, you can take this time and spend it getting crafty with your family and friends. - Relax and keep it simple
At the end of the day, Hygge is all about creating your own space with aspects that bring you peace and joy. Its aim is to reinforce the small things in life that allow you to take time out of your busy day and appreciate life around you. Hygge to you could be different to the next person – it’s unique and precious, so embrace it!
So do you think Hygge is the secret to happiness? Either way, we reckon that you can’t go wrong with embracing all things Hygge when it comes to your bathroom. Tre skål at hygge!
